What you'll accomplish

By the end of this guide, you'll have ChatGPT configured as a knowledgeable troubleshooting partner for your specific machines — so when yarn breaks repeatedly or a machine is acting up, you have a step-by-step diagnostic conversation instead of waiting for your supervisor or hoping an experienced coworker is around.

What you'll need

  • A phone or computer with internet access
  • A free ChatGPT account (openai.com) — or upgrade to {{tool:ChatGPT.plan}} ({{tool:ChatGPT.price}}) for more conversation history
  • The names/models of the machines you operate
  • Time needed: 30 minutes
  • Cost: Free to start; {{tool:ChatGPT.price}} for {{tool:ChatGPT.plan}}

How-To Guide: Set Up ChatGPT as Your Machine Troubleshooting Assistant

Step 1: Create a free ChatGPT account

  1. Open a browser on your phone or computer and go to {{tool:ChatGPT.url}}
  2. Click Sign up in the top-right corner
  3. Enter your email address and create a password (or sign in with your Google account)
  4. Verify your email address when prompted
  5. Complete the short onboarding questions (select "Personal use")

What you should see: The ChatGPT chat screen — a blank text box with "Message ChatGPT" at the bottom. Troubleshooting: If it asks you to verify your phone number, this is normal — enter your number and enter the code texted to you.
